Your mission, if you choose to accept it: Build a contraption that accomplishes a specific task in 20 steps or more. This competition pairs student teams with engineer mentors and teacher sponsors. Teams submit preliminary design drawings and progress photos that document their contraptions' evolution, then present their contraptions for judging based on functionality, complexity, and creativity in achieving the task.

Carnegie Science Center is your host for the National Engineers Week Future City Competition, an innovative, nationally recognized engineering program for students in grades 6–8. Students work in teams, with a teacher and an engineering mentor, to design a city of the future using SimCity™ software. They build a scale model of their city, write an essay on an engineering-related topic, and present their creation during the local competition. Winners go on to compete in the national finals in Washington, D.C.
