Named one of CNN's Top Ten "Global Must-See Exhibitions," THE ART OF THE BRICK exhibit by artist Nathan Sawaya is a critically acclaimed collection of inspiring artworks made exclusively from one of the most recognizable toys in the world: LEGO® bricks. The world's largest display of LEGO art features never-before-seen pieces as well as re-imagined versions of the world's most famous art masterpieces made exclusively from one of the most recognizable toys in the world: the LEGO brick. Assist with hands-on activities and interact with guests in the new Scaife Exhibit Gallery’s first exhibition.
Learn about and present information on aquarium fish, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates to our visitors. Assist in behind the scenes maintenance of the aquarium and habitat areas while learning what it takes to become an animal keeper.
Help us to explore the human body in our newly renovated Body Stage. Interact with visitors by assisting with our 25-minute health and nutrition themed shows. Volunteers can take part in presenting live programs for up to 80 visitors. Anatomy, body chemistry, and food science are just a few of the topics we cover. If being on stage is not your "thing," volunteers can assist with behind the scene show preparation and small demo cart interactions.
Be a part of the Buhl legacy as you present in this one-of-a-kind Planetarium. This high-definition full-dome experience will take you to the far reaches of the galaxy. Whether you assist with our Planetarium shows, dazzle with light and sound in our laser programs, greet our visitors, or help our education team build exciting new activities and demonstrations, there are many ways to bring the mysteries of space to life.
Fab Lab is a digital fabrication laboratory for innovation and invention. It's a workshop for learning and dreaming: a place to play, create, discover, mentor, invent. Work with our staff to demonstrate the capabilities of our 3D printers, laser cutters and ShopBot CNC milling machines. Help students troubleshoot projects and aid staff in setup and maintenance of equipment. Volunteers work on-site or with our Mobile Fab Lab unit. Volunteers should be able to lift 35lbs.
Help visitors climb a wall, bounce on a bungee trampoline, become a human yo-yo and much more at Highmark SportsWorks®, the largest science of sport exhibit in the world.
Interact with visitors, help them experience our exhibits and have fun learning science while working on the exhibit floors, including roboworld™, Exploration Station, and BodyQuest. There are over 100 hands-on activities for kids and adults. Help pique imaginations at the water table, play robot hockey, introduce visitors to our animal ambassadors, and much more.
Become a part of the tradition. Climb aboard and guide visitors through our Miniature Railroad & Village® filled with rich, historical Western Pennsylvania culture.
Our newly renovated industrial themed Works Theater is for the scientist at heart. Join us in our "electrifying" 25-minute live programming. Volunteers can present shows themed around the Tesla Coil, Liquid Nitrogen, and Physics. Volunteers can work with behind the scenes show preparation, small demo interactions and welcoming guests to the "coolest" shows on earth!
Demonstrate gift shop merchandise to visitors in the store, lobby and outdoors. Assist visitors in selecting a CSC souvenir to take home or help other XPLOR Store team members with general retail functions.
Help girls change the world! Volunteer to work in one of the following areas (or suggest a new idea of your own): project planning, events, science content and writing, website at CarnegieSTEMgirls.org, or community partnership.
Contribute to the day-to-day operations of our STEM programs by working behind the scenes. Volunteers assist with data entry and other clerical work, aid in event preparation and breakdown, and support staff at events.
Learn how our cold war submarine operates and share what life onboard was like for the USS Requin submarine crew.
Make a good first impression and help visitors navigate the Science Center. Greet visitors and provide answers to myriad questions that visitors have about the Science Center as well as the Greater Pittsburgh region.
This January and February, help us engage with early learners and their families through fun, new activities while Exploration Station Jr. is closed for renovations. During the closure, the Wean Family Overlook will play host to a pop-up educational space with events taking place daily from 10 am – 5 pm.
