Frequently Asked Summer Camp Questions

When can I register?

Members can register by calling 412.237.3400 or via online beginning Mon., Dec. 10. Registration via the website will be available to members and nonmembers beginning Mon., Dec. 17. To register via the website, click the “buy” button next to your desired camps.

What is your payment policy?

Online registration is the most effective way to secure your place in camp. Online registration requires payment in full by credit card. Registration can also be done with a credit card over the phone. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. Call 412.237.3400 to register.

My child can’t attend camp. What is your refund policy?

All changes or cancellations to camp reservations must be completed by May 31st. Prior to May 31st all cancellations will be subject to a refund of up to the full price of the camp minus a $25 fee, per camp. There will be no changes, cancellations or refunds issued after May 31st.

Can my camp be cancelled?

In case of insufficient registration, Carnegie Science Center reserves the right to cancel any program two weeks before it begins. All registered participants will have the option of attending another camp or receiving a full refund.

Who are the camp instructors?

Carnegie Science Center camp instructors are professional teachers and college seniors majoring in science or education, assisted by college students with documented experience working with children. Camps are designed by camp instructors and full-time Carnegie Science Center professionals to be age-appropriate, stimulating, and exciting. All summer camp staff members–instructors and assistants—have passed thorough background checks.

How many children are in each camp?

The number of children in each camp session varies, but we make sure that an adequate number of adults are on hand for each group. The student:teacher ratio for each camp is 12:1 for ages 6–14, and 7:1 for ages 4–5.

What does the camp registration fee include?

Camp registration fees include all scheduled activities, instruction, plenty of time to explore the Science Center, and a summer camp T-shirt. Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh members enjoy discounted fees. Fees vary by length of camp; camps with field trips may have additional costs.

Are scholarships available?

A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. Call 412.237.3400 for more information.
